RE: ERC CONDEMNS THE POSITION OF STUDENTS ON THE ONGOING FUTA CRISIS

CLARIFICATION AND WITHDRAWAL OF STATEMENT

While there has been lots comments,  objections,  corrections and criticism,   ERC uses this opportunity to clarify some issues and as well withdraw some for the sake of peace and progress.

Firstly,  as criticized that ERC is already biased in its objections, we want to clearly state that ERC is only against the corruption as it is an obstacle towards development of public education in Nigeria. As observed in FUNAAB and OAU where the workers have to down tools in order to fight the corruption, there is a need for collective vigilance in an attempt to totally eradicate this. This is why we join,  in solidarity with JAC,  to resist this.

In regards of the brutality of the FUTA SU by the members of the JAC,  ERC however condemns this action of the JAC and strongly believe that the policemen will make necessary justice.

On the welfare of the students, while we decide to be silent on this,  ERC however believes that the welfare of students would have been even better if the allegedly looted funds are committed to this.

On the creation of new website,  we believe that creation of a new website at this point of time isn't the best solution.  This has happened because the initial portal is been controlled by members of the NASU which are currently on protest. We are only warning students to verify the authenticity of the portal as we know that the initial portal was recently under a cuber attack and any of its data might have been lost. Also,  we withdraw the entirety of the sentence(s)  that have been used against the DSA in our earlier statement.

On the library,  hostel and laboratory of the institution,  as many students have termed this as tantamount to our institution, we hereby withdraw the statement for the benefit of FUTA at large.

Nevertheless,  we want to use the medium to stress that ERC is not being biased but also against corruption as it is an obstacle of a functional public education.

This,  we believe,  has clarified lots of issue and also withdraw the crisis that may arise a result of the earlier statement.

While we have not exhausted all the available resources,  we hope that this will trigger more reactions with a view of ensuring the resumption of FUTA.
