OAU ELECTS NEW UNION LEADERS
THE students of Obafemi AwolowoUniversity Ile Ife have elected a 400 level student from the department of Medicine, Oyekan Ibukun popularly known as Dr. IBK as the President of the Students' Union in the just concluded election held in the University which started on Thursday, 16th of February 2017 and ended on Saturday, 18th of February, 2017.
The students' union of election which observed my Association of Campus Journalists, ACJOAU witnessed massive turn out from the varsity students.
The elected president emerged with total number of 2,698 votes while runner up, Awotiwon Ibiyemi had 1,515 votes, other contestants include Ijiwole ljiyinka (JK) with 970 votes, isreal Taiwo (T cool) had 86 votes, Havics with 161 votes, Oyelami John (Oyo) had 199 votes and Omole Ibukun (Hon. IBK) had 995 votes.
The office of the Vice President of the union was won by Jacob Tosin (Emerald), a 400 level student of Law who emerged with 4,052 votes ahead of Adetayo Hannah (Annadiva) and Lawal Temitope (Themmy T) who had 2,050 votes and 536 votes respectively.
For the office of the Secretary General, Adeoluwa Boluwajaiye (Fynesboi), a 300 level student of Philosophy emerged with 2,469 votes while othercontestants Durodola Eportah had 1,456 votes, Oluwateju Oluwasegun (Ray) scored 2,019 votes and Benard Samuel (Benard P) had 592 votes.
The office of the Assistant Secretary General of the union was won by a 300 level student of Faculty to Education, Oyebanjo Seun (SIEWEN) with the total number of 3,762 votes while the other three contestants are Adedeji Rasheed(Emeritus Ara), Oyetayo Kayode (Kay) and Yussuf Abolaji (Victor) who had 761 votes, 869 votes and 940 votes respectively.
The union has Okediji Simon (Zuma) asthe mouth piece after emerging as thePublic Relations Officer with 3,849 votes against the other two contestants, Omole Isaac (O'zik) and Oloniran Gbenga (VON) with both having 723 votes and 1,889 votes respectively.
Omisakin Kehinde of the Faculty of Agric won the seat of the FinancialSecretary of the union with 4,018 votes ahead of Ologun Temidayo (Yellowbantty) who had 2,430 votes.
The welfare of the generality of Great Ife students falls into the hand of Ajiboye Adekanmi (EFO) who emerged as the Welfare Officer of the union with 2,898 against Ogunola Abayomi (Emperor), Oladapo Rasheed (Brain) and Akpobaroeyere Emmanuel (K1) who scored 1,595 votes, 1,588 votes and 338 votes respectively.
The office of the Director of Social and Culture was won by Adedayo Afolabi (Lamba) who had 5,576 votes while his opponent from department of Dramatic Arts, Ojuola Victor (Chauw Lee) had 797 votes.
Finally, the last position in the union, Sports Director was won by a 200 level student of Physical and Heath Education, Adewumi Micheal who emerged with 3,633 votes while othercontestants Adenuga Oreofe (Coach OORE) and Aderinto Elijah (ERINTO) has 1,735 votes and 881 votes respectively.
The result of the election was declared by the electoral chairman of the electoral commission, Fadele Olushola (SHOWBABA) in presence of the OAUsecurity officers and Association of Campus Journalists who gave the election proper observation to ensurefree, fair and credible election.
