FUTA DEBATERS LEAD NDC PARTICIPANTS ON “WALK FOR CHANGE “
The fifth edition of the Nigeria Debate Championship took on a new hue on Friday, 1st of September, 2017 as participants trooped out to the streets of Akure to enlighten Nigerians about how to be the change needed to transform the country. The exercise tagged 'The KTB for Change Campaign' extended to Alagbaka from Old Garage, the commercial centre of the city. The President, FUTA debate club, who is also the Convener of the Nigeria Debate Championship, Adelusi Oluwaseunnla described the exercise as reaching out to the society and communicating the change agenda to them so that they can be part of the process of building a better society. “This time around we decided we should do something about the community, we wanted to reach out and enlighten people on knowing the change, talking the change and being the change, and make them know how they can be involved in issues affecting the society at large”, Oluwaseeunnla said. Lawal David, the team lead of ENACTUS FUTA, who was also a part of the walk, said the every Nigerian has the responsibility of transforming the country. Isaac Kareem, a participant in the Championship and the walk, who is from Ghana and a second-time visitor to Nigeria, was also of the opinion that the power for change is with the masses, especially the youths.
The walk also witnessed a visit to Breeze FM in Ijoka where few of the participants discussed the ideals of the campaign and called for a build-up system to sustain the numerous needs of debaters in the society. The campaign was part of the programmes for the Debate Championship hosted by the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
